Detoxing Done Properly

I’ve been thinking a lot about detoxing lately.

Not the trendy version of detoxing – the quick fixes, the extremes, the “push through and hope for the best” kind of approach.

But the kind of detox that actually supports the body.

Because the truth is, detoxing isn’t something we switch on for a week and then forget about. Your body is detoxing every single day. Your liver, your gut, your lymphatic system, your skin – they are constantly working to process, filter and eliminate what your body no longer needs.

The question isn’t should you detox?

The question is…
Are you supporting your body to do it well?

One of the biggest things I see – and I’m sure you’ve seen it too – is people deciding they need a detox and going straight into restriction.

Water fasts.
Very low-calorie cleanses.
Cutting everything out.

And often, what happens?

They feel terrible.

Headaches.
Fatigue.
Nausea.
Brain fog.

And this is often labelled as a “healing crisis.”

Now yes, sometimes the body can feel a little different as it begins to release stored toxins… but what I see more often is something else entirely.

The body is not being supported.

Because detoxing isn’t just about releasing toxins.

It’s about:

• Mobilising toxins from where they are stored
• Processing them safely (primarily through the liver)
• And then actually eliminating them from the body

If we don’t support all three of those stages… those toxins don’t magically disappear.

They circulate.

And when that happens, the body can feel overwhelmed.

I know people who do water fasts.

And yes – they often feel incredible afterwards.

But during? They can feel very unwell.

And what’s even more important… is what happens after the detox.

Because when the body hasn’t been nutritionally supported through that process, it often takes time to recover.

The immune system can dip.
Energy can crash.
The body can become more susceptible to whatever is going around.

And this is where we need to gently question the approach.

Because a detox shouldn’t leave you depleted.

It should leave you supported.

At Heartland Meadows, we take a very different approach.

We don’t starve the body.
We don’t push it into extremes.
And we certainly don’t expect you to feel awful just to “get results.”

Instead, we focus on nutritional support.

Because your body needs nutrients to detox.

It needs:

• Vitamins and minerals to support liver pathways
• Amino acids to assist in detoxification processes
• Protein to bind and remove toxins through the digestive system
• Hydration to flush and carry waste out of the body

Without these… detox simply doesn’t work effectively.

When detoxing is done properly, it becomes a process of support, not stress.

We use:

• Fresh juices to deliver nutrients in an easily absorbable form
• Protein to ensure toxins are actually eliminated (not reabsorbed)
• Nourishing broths and meals to keep the body stable and supported
• Lymphatic drainage to assist the movement of waste through the body
• Gentle movement, breathwork, and rest to support the nervous system

Because detoxing isn’t just physical.

It’s mental.
It’s emotional.
It’s energetic.

And all of those systems need to be considered.

Another misconception I see a lot is this idea that we do one detox… and that’s it.

We’re “fixed.”

But the reality is, we live in a world where toxins are constantly entering our system.

Through our food.
Our environment.
Our products.
Even our stress.

So detoxing becomes less about a one-off event… and more about a rhythm of support.

A way of gently bringing the body back into balance.

Maybe once or twice a year.
Maybe more, depending on what your body needs.

Not harsh.
Not extreme.
Just consistent, supported care.

When the body is supported properly, detoxing feels very different.

Instead of feeling depleted… people often feel:

• Clearer in their thinking
• Lighter in their body
• More stable in their energy
• Calmer in their nervous system
• More connected to themselves

Yes, weight can shift.

But that’s not the goal.

The goal is function.

The goal is balance.

The goal is creating an internal environment where the body can do what it’s designed to do – efficiently, gently, and sustainably…

…with no damage to the body’s organs and natural processes.

Detoxing doesn’t need to be something we fear or push through.

It can be something we work with.

Something that supports not just the body… but the mind and the way we move through life.

And when we approach it this way – with nourishment, understanding, and support – it becomes something entirely different.

Not a punishment.

But a reset.

A reconnection.

A return to feeling like yourself again.

If this is something you’ve been thinking about, or if your body has been quietly asking for a reset… this is exactly the work we do inside our Radiant Reset Detox Retreat.

A space where you are supported every step of the way – physically, nutritionally, and energetically.
